Rental FAQ
What's included in a birth pool rental?
Each rental package includes 4 weeks time, the birth pool, and everything you will need to set up and break down the pool for your beautiful birth. You will not need to purchase any additional items, unless you have an uncommon water outlet. In that case, you may need to purchase a specific hose fitting to connect the included water fill hose to your specific sink, shower or other water hookup. A list of the specific items that are included with each rental package can be found on the Rentals page.
How long can I keep the pool for?
The included rental period is for a duration of 4 weeks of your choosing. (Typically weeks 38–42, or 37–41).
Additional weeks can be purchased at $50 per week.
Arrangements for the return of the pool must be made within 48 hours after the birth. This allows us to prepare it promptly for the next family.
When should I book my birth pool?
We highly recommend booking your birth pool as soon as possible to secure availability for your birthing time. Bookings are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability is limited. Booking well in advance of your birth is strongly encouraged.
What am I responsible for/need to have?
You are responsible for making sure you have the right hose adapter for filling your pool from your specific sink/shower/laundry water outlets/etc. I have a series of adapters I can provide for common water outlets, but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure it is the right fit.
You will be responsible for picking up and returning the pool kit (unless you’ve opted for porch delivery/pick-up service). Pool set-up, take-down, disposing of the one-time-use materials, and basic cleaning of the pool after use are also your responsibility.
I strongly recommend doing a practice set-up of the pool and familiarizing yourself with it before the start of labor.
Are the pools cleaned between each use?
Absolutely. We adhere to strict cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Each pool and kit item is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with medical-grade supplies to ensure all bodily fluids are removed between uses. Additionally, a high-quality disposable liner must be used with each rental.
How do we use the pool and kit?
How long does a pool take to set-up/break-down?
If it’s your first time setting up a birth pool, plan for the process to take about an hour from start to finish. If you are familiar with the setup, it typically takes between 30–60 minutes, depending mostly on your home’s water pressure and hot water availability.
Our simple Instruction Guide, included in your kit, offers a clear step-by-step process for you or your partner to follow.
Average Setup Time:
- Inflating the pool: 5–10 minutes
- Set-up/put away equipment, floor protection, and decor: 5 minutes
- Inserting & adjusting the liner: 2 minutes
- Filling the pool: 15–30 minutes
Tip: Inflate the pool during early labor, but wait to fill it until you are in active labor. If you’re not getting in the pool right away, fill the bottom half with hot water and add lukewarm water when you’re ready to enter. The ideal temperature for the pool is 98°F, which can be measured with the thermometer included in your kit.
Average Break-Down Time: Break-down takes around the same amount of time as set-up. It can typically take 15–30 minutes for the submersible drain pump to extract all the water from the pool.
What do I need to do before returning the pool?
Pools must be drained and wiped down within 12 hours post-birth.
While you do not need to do a complete sanitizing of the pool, please make sure the pool and all returnable components are wiped down, free of large particulate or visible blood/fluids, and that everything is dried before packing it back into the box. Please ensure all disposable supplies are properly disposed of and not accidentally included in the pool return box.
Pools must be returned or requested for porch pick-up service within 48 hours post-birth.
What happens if I accidentally damage the pool or kit?

Will you ever offer La Bassine or Oasis branded pools?
Unless there are a high volume of requests for these pool brands, we currently don’t have any plans to add them to our fleet of pools. La Bassine and Oasis brand pools are built with transparent walls for the primary benefit of midwives and medical professionals to be able to look into the pool while the mother is birthing. We want to offer pools that provide women the maximum amount of comfort and privacy in their birth spaces, so we do not plan to offer pools with this “feature.”
I'm having a hospital birth, can I bring the pool?
Different hospitals have different policies, so it’s important to discuss this with your OB-GYN or your hospital midwifery team where you plan to give birth. Many hospitals will allow you to bring your pool to labor in; however, they will typically ask you to get out of the pool for the birth of your baby. Don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself to use a pool during labor for pain management in a hospital setting!
